This is known so far... !
Half Life 2: Episode Two
is the
second part in the trilogy sequel that continues where the finale of
Half Life 2 ends. Release of Half Life 2: Episode 2 (Ep2) is
presently set to Holyday 2006. Episode One (Ep1) is
out now.
Various sources around the net;
including various forums
leads me to conclude and summarize what's known so far about Episode
Two.
WARNING: Spoilers to follow...
Places
Episode Two will take place outside of City 17 in the
surrounding hills and forests. Locations mentioned include old mines
and a Vortigount camp. An abandoned missile silo is supposed to be
the base camp for Dr Isaac Kleiner and the father of Alyx - Eli
Vance, whom we hear as background voice in the trailers. The base
camp is also serving the rebel forces.
Gordon will move between different locations almost
as vastly as in the entire Half Life 2, suggesting many more
different locations that we yet know nothing about.
Story
Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance leaves City 17 by
train, at the end of Episode One, after successfully stalling the
final destruction of the Citadel tower. This rescues the rebel
forces and inhabitants from being incinerated with City 17. Alyx and
Gordon assist the rescue.
It is assumed that the train ride continues in
Episode Two where Episode One ends. The train derails and crashes.
Gordon, Alyx and the Rebel Forces congregates in the forests outside
of City 17. This is where the fight continues against the Combine
Forces, for control of Earth.
Alyx Vance has a prominent role in Episode Two as
well. From the trailer we know she's hurt to some extent, but she
will likely recover to participate throughout the game.
Enemies, Vehicles, Weapons
In the combat, new enemies will be encountered;
hunters as seen in the trailers. Hunters are a smaller
version of the previously known striders. The hunters are confirmed
to be eight feet tall, yet able to go everywhere the player can go.
The hunters are obviously very suited for the forest environment.
Hunters cooperate with striders preventing the hide-fire tactics to
take out striders. Hunters communicate with each other and striders
with a howl-like sound or shout. The hunters will have an antenna
rice from their head when looking for you.
Strider Buster is a new weapon added in
Episode Two. The strider buster is used to place a
"sticky-bomb"-like device on the underside of a strider. This
exhausts energy from the strider - making it easier to kill with a
rocket launcher.
The gravity gun will not be super-charged in
Episode Two, like it was in parts of Episode One and in the end of
Half Life 2. Some new ammunition will be available to the gravity
gun, described as like strider buster ammo.
At least one new vehicle will appear in Episode Two.
This is a rammer-like vehicle built in the forest by rebels. It is a
two seat vehicle, that can take one passenger. The passenger can act
gunner. The vehicle is supposed to be equipped with a ram in front,
rumored to be used for taking out hunters.
Also check out some unofficial
ingame videos from Episode
Two, reveling some of the above described.
